Recording a night
How should I set up my phone?
Put it on the nightstand within about a metre of your head, screen up so the microphone is clear, and plugged in. The Tonight tab checks all three before you start. Breathe or speak softly and the microphone bar should move.
Can I lock the phone?
Yes. Start the night, then lock the phone. Dormir keeps recording in the background until you stop it in the morning.
The recording has gaps
iOS pauses the microphone for phone calls, FaceTime, some alarms and other apps that take over audio. Dormir resumes when it can and shows these gaps in the report instead of skipping them silently. Do Not Disturb or a Sleep Focus helps avoid them.
The night didn't record at all
Check that microphone access is on in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Dormir. Also make sure you didn't force-quit Dormir by swiping it away in the app switcher, since that stops the recording.
Understanding your report
What is a possible pause?
A stretch of at least 10 seconds of silence during snoring, often followed by a gasp or a burst of snoring as breathing resumes. High-confidence pauses follow that pattern clearly. Low-confidence ones are counted separately. You can listen to any moment of the night from its timeline.
Does Dormir diagnose sleep apnea?
No. Dormir is not a medical device. It can't detect central apnea, which is silent, and it doesn't measure AHI or oxygen. If you're worried about your breathing at night, talk to a doctor. The recordings can be useful to play to them.
I share the bed. Does that matter?
Dormir assumes every sound it hears is yours, so a partner's snoring will be counted as yours. It works best when you sleep alone.
Audio and storage
How much space does it use?
About 60 MB per night of audio. In Settings you can keep audio for 3, 7 or 30 days, or until you delete it, and see how much is stored. Reports and trends stay after the audio is deleted.
How do I keep a night's audio?
Turn on Keep audio in the night's report, or swipe right on the night in the Nights list and tap Keep. Kept nights are never deleted automatically.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is processed and stored on your iPhone, and night audio is excluded from backups. See the privacy policy.
